Got out to east beach early and found the summering pomarine jaeger out on
an island near the jetty. A fisherman walked out there with a cast net and
moved most of the birds.
I watched a jaeger jaegering the feeding terns next to the jetty out a ways
assuming it was the sitting bird. However, it turned and showed that it has
a full set of pomarine tail feathers. Then found the summering bird still
sitting there.
Not sure it was sitting there but it did show up when the sitting birds
flushed.
Had a total of 10 lesser black-backed gulls there. Then on the ferry just
after leaving the docks saw a strange gull that could best be described as
a very faded young kittiwake wing pattern. Lost it behind tugboats but it
was headed to a shrimper. Something to watch for.
A couple of good things to look for if you are out in the next few days.
Lots of fish off bolivar flats have attracted hordes of pelicans and terns.
Large numbers of dead fish on the beach at Rollover Pass did the same.
Pelicans picking up fish from the sand.
