12-14-13 Sparrows & Pelicans @ Warbler Woods Bird Sanctuary 39 species today We had 5 visitors who braved the threat of dense fog to take part in our Sparrow Walk this morning. Luckily the fog threat evaporated and we had a bright but breezy day. We found 10 species of sparrows and 24 species of other birds. Dark-eyed Junco was the most unusual sparrow, but a long ascending version of a White-throated Sparrow song was the most rewarding experience. We had good scope views of most of the sparrows and a number of other types as well. We also had American Pipets. We also watched a Cooper's Hawk dive bomb and chase a large number of Mourning Doves perched on a power line. They all managed to escape. At one point we played the "way" call of a Hermit Thrush and had an immediate syllable by syllable echo from a real thrush. Susan had a few species we didn't have, including 45 American White Pelicans, which she got pictures of.
