Dear Entrepreneur,
Cincinnati Creates Companies, a new
initiative funded by a grant from the
National Science Foundation and coordinated
through a consortium of local partner
organizations, "provides a comprehensive
program that adresses key knowledge, skills
and insights needed to be a successful
entrepreneur."

Per the attached announcement, those who have
an idea for starting a technology based
company or want to expand an existing company
through product development or those seeking
intellectual property to start a new company,
may have access to individual coaches and be
eligible to compete in a business plan
competition for funding amounts of $25k to $50k.

Indeed, this is an opportunity for not only
those here in the Cincinnati area to get
involved, but for those members of The
Entrepreneurial Group outside the Greater
Cincinnati area who may want to contribute
their time, effort, products and/or services
to collaborate with and support Cincinnati
technology based startup companies.

A web site providing more detail about this
program is being developed. You'll be
notified when this site is made available.

For now, please contact Dr. Dorothy Air for
more information regarding the Cincinnati
Creates Companies Program.

New Opportunity for Technology-oriented Entrepreneurs

Aspiring entrepreneurs in the Greater Cincinnati Region now have an exciting
resource available to them to enhance their business success. The University of
Cincinnati, along with its partner organizations, (BIO/START, Emerging
Concepts, Inc., Hamilton County Business Center, CincyTechUSA and Children's
Hospital Medical Center) has just been awarded a grant from the National
Science Foundation's Partnerships for Innovation Program to launch the
"Cincinnati Creates Companies" Program. We are seeking your assistance in
identifying viable candidates for this program.

"Cincinnati Creates Companies" provides a comprehensive program that addresses
key knowledge, skills and insights needed to be a successful entrepreneur. The
program is highly experiential, and as each participant moves through the
training modules, they will apply the information learned to their own business
plan development. The educational program also connects participants with a
pipeline of critical resources that are essential in taking entrepreneurs from
the idea stage to successful company formation. This includes the opportunity
to work with an individual coach. Participants who successfully complete the
program will be eligible to submit their final business plans in a competition
for funding in the range of $25,000-$50,000. This will provide funding to
support the early implementation needs of their business plans. Successful
program participants will also present their business plans to the Cincinnati
SoundingBoard and other networks to gain valuable business advice as
well as exposure to additional sources of funding.

Two types of individuals or groups are eligible: those who have an idea for
starting a technology-based company or want to expand a small company via new
product development; and those who are seeking the intellectual property needed
to start a new company.

This is a very exciting opportunity for our region to gain a competitive
economic edge by providing targeted support to aspiring entrepreneurs. The
"Cincinnati Creates Companies" partnership brings a wide range of perspectives,
ideas and expertise. It not only brings together a network of external resource
groups but also includes a multidisciplinary team drawn from across the
University. The University areas include the Office of Entrepreneurial Affairs,
Intellectual Property Office, the Colleges of Business and Engineering and the
UC Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research. Together these
organizations and their extensive networks, provide the breadth and depth of
expertise to achieve the program goals.

We would be very happy to provide you and your organization with additional
information about "Cincinnati Creates Companies." If you are interested in
someone from the program presenting to your group, please contact Dr. Dorothy
H. Air at Dorothy.air@xxxxxx or at 558-6054.
