Don't know the specifics of your troubleshooting (ie good sound here, bad
sound there), but I have run across many defective speaker coils in the past
that were intermittant also. You might want to turn off the sound and gently
wiggle the speaker in and out, any noise while pushing indicates a defective
coil, then try the same with some sound coming out.
