We recycle them by charging and then discharging with a load such as a builb and after a few times of doing that they usually come back and hold a charge. Essentialy you want to get rid of the memory. Usually I will have the voltage on a newly charged battery...but it drops quickly because of the current. The B&D silver ones I have zapped with 12 amperes will charge up, but placing in a tool, it quickly dies. I haven't had my gold one need it, yet. Just be very careful. You only need to apply the voltage for a fraction of a second, so there isn't enough time to heat things up. Zapping the whole thing works for me. Besides, whata ya gonna do, take a molded battery all apart? The cadmium in ni-cad batteries is very toxic (much more than lead). If the battery were to somehow explode and some particles end up in your mouth that wouldn't be good. I place something on top of the battery, just in case. The small lithium battery in my Casio PocketPC cost $50. It sure was nice to fix it when it failed to take a charge. -- Best regards, Bil Green 2001 TV VCR Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546 760-934-2001 mailto:tv.vcrrepair@xxxxxxxxxxx Monday, September 8, 2003, 7:10:20 PM, you wrote: Tc> hi fellows :i've been zapping batterys for years to answer someone Tc> questions first you have to zap individul batteries for instance a telephone usually has 3 batterys check each one should be Tc> 1.5volts which one reads less than 1.5volts is bad thats the one you Tc> gaff with 12volts don't apply the 12volts across the 3 batteries this means when you have more than 1 battery you have to Tc> measure each battery and find the bad ones for instance a makita Tc> drill with 9.6 volts the plastic case has to be pried apart measure each one to find the bad one or more.
