[TechAssist] vertical IC's (LA7836,7837,7838,etc) interchangability?

We discussed in the past, certain of these common vertical output ICs as 
being interchangable. Does anyone remember or know which are? Normally 
you would use the originals of course, but in some cases there is no 
choice. Like what can be subbed for an LA7836, etc?
