I had a similar magnavox ptv that was doing some weird things (missing
convergence menu and some other system control related fault).  I
temporarily removed the memory battery, which allowed the system to reset,
and after reinstalling is, set worked ok.  It's a coil cell with tabs
mounted on the signal process pcb under the big shield.  It may be weak,
should be about 3.6 volts.
