Some Sony receivers depend on the screws that mount the pc boards to the 
chassis to ground parts of the circuit boards. Works great till the 
screws work themselves loose, then you have intermittently ungrounded 
circuits, causes the units to go into protect intermittently. Also the 
screws between the RCA jacks on the back of the unit provide a ground 
path for some circuits. All screws must be re tightened and some should 
have a hardwire ground added.
