Yes, just use the regular heat sink compound. Be sure and clean off all of the 
"sticky crap" from the old pad.

  is it ok to just use heat sink compound instead of  this grey pad with the 
wire mesh inside? it tore all to pieces when I tried to remove it..any help 
very much appreciated
