OK Tom, I didn't know you replaced the upper cylinder. The point I was trying to make was that maybe the EP heads were dirty, hence the poor play back on EP recorded tapes, but I guess you ruled that out with replacement. Without seeing the video, I would look at tension band, pinch roller, capstan and be sure they are all working properly and clean.
