In addition to the vertical IC there may be a cap or two, and there is a 75v
zener diode,D422 off of the vertical IC pin 2 which has been known to cause
problems.  The set won't work without vertical  IC input is pin 2, output
pin 4.  Aprox 23V on pins 3 and 6.

Slow the scope down and see if you get vertical out of/into the ic.  Also,
these sets appear to be as picky with the vertical ic as Sony power supplies
are with the 2sc4834s.
