[TechAssist] Utilities to Help Protect/Fix Windows

Howdy...
I am going to give a few utilities that are included with Windows, but do
not use these as though they will not damage your system, as they can.
SFC - System Filing Cabinet:
This utility is used to restore corrupted, or files that have been
"replaced". The catch with this little utility is, if you have updated
Internet Explorer, or the like, and have not run SFC to update its database,
it will erroneously report files as the files have not been updated in its
database.
SCANREG:
This utility allows you to restore backups of the registry database, but
MUST be done from a MS-DOS command prompt without Windows. When you system
starts to boot, you press F8 to get the startup menu, and select "Command
prompt only" if you wish to use this utility.
Please note that if you misuse these utilities, you CAN do damage to the
Windows operating system which may require you to reinstall Windows, and all
software you have installed on the system. This is your ONLY warning.
