Courtesty of iwaynet.net (NESDA):

*Sony Silence*
By: Staff Writer

OK, Maybe "Silence" is too harsh... It could be "Garbled", or
"Noisy", or "Distorted", or "Static", but what is ISN'T is
"NORMAL". We've encountered these symptoms before in other Sony's
that use the Infamous SBX1637 Sound package. We've even come to
love those SBX's as they have allowed us to put our kids through
college from the income they generate. Unfortunately, there's
Another SBX sound package that might cause similar symptoms, and
IT has been decreed as NLA by Sony.

      It's the SBX 1593-01 (Sony # 8-741-159-30). Wouldn't you just HATE
to have to trash a nice Sony TV because you can't get a part to
fix a Sound Problem? Well, one of our readers has come forth to
tell you of a way to bypass this circuit.

To bypass the module: Use two 4.7@50 capacitors and connect the
(-) side of one cap to pin 5 on the MTS module and the (+) side to
pin 4 on the DBX module.

Take the second cap and connect the (-) side to pin 6 on the MTS
and the (+) side to pin 5 on the DBX module. This should give you
clean sound but you may not have the fullness that the board would
      have given you."

Well, a "Lack of Fullness" is certainly better than a "Lack of
Sound" which is what the customer had before the bypass. Sometimes
you just have to be creative to get a Fix. We thank our readers
for allowing us a chance to get This One.
