[TechAssist] Transistor 2SC4418 repeat failure

Hello all, this power transistor is in the power supply for a TV/VCR combo,
Quasar VV2017W and keeps shorting. It is good for a month or so but shorts
again, I checked all resistors diodes and replaced many caps, all good. I have
heard that there is a better transistor to use than C4418 but do not remember
what it is, does anyone know? Any help is appreciated.
