If they are passive speakers, even if you hooked them up wrong it wouldn't hurt anything...as long as they were connected to the speaker terminal jacks/connectors. If the speakers have RCA connectors instead of bare wire, they may have hooked them into the wrong RCA jacks on the set, but I doubt this would hurt anything either with a passive device...it's 'possible' since the impedance is so low for speakers, but not very likely. More so if they are blown, because that would mean the voice coil would be shorted creating 0 ohms. Now if the speakers are of the amplified type, that's a different story. This COULD hurt something if they were connected to the wrong jacks (if the speakers used RCA jack connectors), but wouldn't if simply the polarity was reversed. They could only screw up the polarity if the speakers used bare wire, therefore only the bare wire speaker terminals could have been used. And again, if they were blown, this could be more of a chance to damage something if they used RCA connectors. I guess the first logical question to ask them, is are the speakers passive or amplified, and if passive, did they hook the speakers into a separate amp or receiver, then hook the amp or receiver into the TV set. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com http://ComputerHardware-ConsumerElectronics.com sales@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Fax: 209-882-9602 TechAssist Administration http://tech-assist.org techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 4orpheus@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (alternates) orpheuscomputing@xxxxxxxxx (PLEASE include our previous correspondence if replying to this email!!) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Dougherty" <jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2002 11:00 PM Subject: [TechAssist] Toshiba TP50F61, EXT speaker damage Hello, I received a call from the previous customer. It seems now they hooked external speakers up to this PTV and now the set will not come on, or if it does, there is no audio/video. I always figured the only way to damage these was if there was an AMP hooked up and it was too powerful. Could the speakers have damaged this set if the wires were reversed? If so, would it take out the video, also? I appreciate all opinions. Thank you.
