Bil These are showing up pretty regularly with H-K shorts and you may be seeing the beginning of it with filament insulation particles being accelerated out of the neck into the bell at turn on. The filaments always did glow brilliant at turn on and settle down as you have observed. Toshiba tech said that this brings up the image to full brightness quickly and the filaments are lower in resistance when cold, drawing more current initially.
