Walt;
They are not being paid $27 and hour, 3 weeks paid vacation, and
production bonuses. I would be surprised if their take-home is more then
30 to 35 bucks a week.

Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Thomson TEC

Having worked in electronic manufacturing, I can
assure you that the Chinese are assembling these
products the same way as everyone else, by machine.
How else would SMD parts be placed?
The grunt labor is in parts, QA(if any
exists),testing, packing, and shipping.
That being the case, how is there such a huge
difference in the manufacturing cost, especially
considering that the finished product is shipped
halfway across the world.??
I can't believe that a huge difference exists, the
Chinese are "dumping", pure and simple.
I had a conversation with a high placed exec. with
a ball bearing plant around here.
They had the same problem, as most of their
operation here was automated.
Still, the Japanese undercut them.
The company went to federal court and got some
action to stop the Japanese.
Later when they tried to stop the Chinese, they
were ruled aganist.
Consequently, the plant here is close to closing.
There has got to be other things going on here.
Well, the Chinese restaurants are already here.
Plenty of them.
In this town alone there are 4 Chinese/orential ,
and only 2 Mexican, and 2 Italian.
Guess we better learn to like it.
