Larry,
We are an authorized service center for JVC, and we don't even bother trying
them anymore.
It's "lights on...nobody home" at JVC.
As far as the horizontal problem goes, I would look for instability back at
the jungle IC. For instance, check the osc, apc, for the "jitteres".
If the signal going to the HOT looks good, then it may be something starting
to fail in the HV section, like HV timing caps, yoke arc, solder, or perhaps
flakey windings in the FBT.
Sorry, no simple answer on this one.
