Gary,
The 33v seems to blow instantly. The other diodes, transistors don't go for a 
little wire.
I saw no shorts on the tuner or vertical IC.
Transformer is a possibility, though I have never heard of that on these sets.

Jeff, what about something unusual such as leakage between primary and 
secondary of the SMPS transformer?  Does the 33V zener blow instantly or 
  is there enough time to do measurements?  Is the 33V rectifier 
installed backwards by any chance?
