If the serial number indicates that the unit is new enough, Funai will usually provide a special autorization for parts warranty. Unusual to go bad while a tape is playing. Usually fouls up while loading or unloading due to the mode switch, and the mechanical damage is from trying to remove the cassette. If it got zapped from a power surge, the damage is usually severe. Last one I succeeded with took 18 parts - diodes, zeners, resistors, chip resistors, couple transistors.
