Here is a suspect I found a BU517 code date 9556 failed rapidly This one
is NOT from tritronics. so split it open (with a hammer and Chisel) and
compaired to failed original code date 9627. On the code date 9556 the die
was about 30% smaller, the substrate was tinned copper with sucessive
surrounding square lines, the die was sealed with white silicone prior to
encapslation. the lines in the die were also fairly fine. I don't have
acess to a working SEM right now so it is dificult to say more. The failed
original code dated 9627 actually shattered the die in seperation had a very
well bonded top case no silicone, the sub straight was bare copper. the
original had a printed label. the suspect had an etched lettering, both
indicating ST morroco with simmilar cases. the suspect did have some damage
to the case front right at the bottom of the BU.

Paul, fake = counterfeit, and a part being sold as equivalent
to STK730-020 but will not hold up because it does not have equivalent specs
is counterfeit, or fake. Just like a counterfeit, or fake, $20.00
bill......it just won't last long.

Hep me understand. What is a fake part? How do you differentiate between a
"fake" and a generic? My understanding of fake has been, something that
looks real but is not. Are the "fake" parts, not real parts? Generic parts
have a generic P/N.s What do fake parts have? Paul

Most of us have thousand of dollars of inventory. When I get low on a
part or find a part I don't stock, I order them. Rarely order just one,
just for high-cost items. Even if you know when and where a part is
ordered, it may be many months later when you find it defective. You may
use three of one particular part in one week and not need another of the
same for a year.
