Sony, like everyone else, has had cutbacks but they still have some of the
most knowledgable tech reps of any company that I work with. I regularly
communicate with them and there are a number of techs that go back many
years with Sony and know the products extremely well. Easily the most
competent and helpful of the TV manufacturers, except perhaps for
Mitsubishi, though the Mits techs don't know their product as well. Sony
also has some great training online and very useful training manuals.
