[TechAssist] Sony KPR-46ex35 crt bad ?

Hi all,
Did a service call on the above 1991 Sony projo, when power is pressed the end
of the green crt glows violet for a second then shuts down. Is this a sure
indication that the crt has gone bad or is there a chance that there might be
another problem in the video circuit. This tube is going to be hell taking out
and installing so I would like to be as sure as possible.
