Bill, The following is from Winstips: Per Sony Tech Bulletin: Remove Fuse F402 And Replace With 0 Ohm Reisitor On Mb Board Side B Exchange Resistors R416 & R418 From 150k To 82k The Parts Are On The Mb Board Which Connects To The Optics. The Modification Is To Prevent Damage To The Optics. However, I Have Never Done One Where The Optics Was Not Already Bad. The Overcurrent Damages The Coil And Even If The Fuse Is Not Blown, Damage Has Already Occurred. Before Replacing R416 & 418 And F402, Check The Resistance Between The Laser Ribbon Connector Pins 21 & 22. If Less Than 6 Ohms, The Laser Is Failing And Should Be Included In The Estimate. The Laser Ribbon Is Accessable On The Top Side Of That Servo Pcb. I just noticed. I took this information from DVPS360. May or may not apply.
