Thanks to a generous member uploading the service manual to the members area, I have learned that this model is a generation 2 DVD player whereas the model DVP-S560 is a generation 4 player, and therefore I do not believe this model has the F402, or at least I can't find it no matter how long I look at the boards. I reassembled the unit to test it out further. Now the thing will play audio cd's although there is the odd pause for a fraction of a second near the beginning of a disc. After it has been going for a while, the cd plays all the way through ok. As for DVD playback, one DVD will never load, another has problems loading and stops with an E:13:73 error. Then I press play right after that and it starts playing fine. Another DVD will load and start playing ok but like the audio disc, there is the odd pause during play. I'm not sure if all my DVD's are single layer only. They all seem to look a slight bit yellowish but none of them are a deep gold color. I put the scope on pin 1 of CN303 to look at the RF and eye pattern during DVD playback. It is supposed to be at least 1 volt p-p for the player to play without skipping. All I see is noise wavform at 200 mV in amplitude with a separate spike that seems to randomly appear. Either I'm doing something wrong or this is extremely weak waveform. I don't know what to look for regarding the eye pattern. What does it normally look like? Not having worked much on DVD players, I really don't know what to do on this unit. The more I read the manual the more confusing this is getting. I am not willing to spring for new laser, IC's or spindle motor without having some confidence that they are the problem. The manual does mention a E:13:00 error but my error is E:13:73 which I don't know if it is the same or totally different. Thanks for any help. Gary McCartney McCartney Electronics Guelph Ontario Canada Est. 1984 email: gary (at) number63.ca My original message: I have a Sony DVD player model DVP-S500D, which the disc does not spin, either DVD or CD audio. I cleaned the laser lenses and checked the fuses F001 to F006 on the main CPU board. Also looked the whole unit over for an F402 which apparently is found open on many Sony models, but I can't find this fuse. Where do I look for it, or is it is even present in this model? There was an error code come up on the display but I forgot to write it down before dismantling the unit. I believe it was code 30. Thanks for any help. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jokes, complaints, off topics, general chat.
