All, I have a few tips to check for open coil L301. Here's what I have..though varies a little differently from The Speaker: Samsung\TXE2745\No vertical deflection and L301(10µH?) burnt\\\\IC301(TDA8350Q)*C302( 0.15UF/100V)*R307(1 OHM 1/2W)*R308(1 OHM 1/2W)*R417(5.6 OHM 1/2W)\Note In some cases C302 may be 0.1UF/100V but replace with 0.15UF/100V\May have to adjust the service parameters\TURN OFF then press MUTE*1*8*2 and power. This will get you in the factory mode\\\\\ Jeff Dougherty Intrepid Video TV/VCR 263 S Front St Steelton PA 17113 fax...717-564-4952 www.intrepid-video.com www.tech-repair.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Gunn" <kgunn@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2004 8:48 PM Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Samsung,TV,mod#TXE2545,chass#KCT52A,No vert FIX,Now no sound or Pix This is the ST 301 info. Samsung CTV, No Vert. Kit ST-301 By: Joe Sopko, CET These are Samsung 25" and 27" afflicted with "No Vert. Deflection" due to failure of the Vert. output IC301 (TDA8350). After replacing the IC, it ran quite hot to the touch. Well, in certain models, Samsung also recommends installing a "Kit" to "improve the reliability of the vert circuit". The models are: TXE2545, TXE2546, TXE2549, TXE2745, TXE2746, and TXE2749. I could see how running hot might compromise reliability, so I ordered part # ST301 for $11.80 from Fox, however, if you want to home brew your own kit, the values and installation details follow: Change value of C302 (IC pin 9 to ground) from .15uF to .22uF@100V Add a zener diode (MA2560, ECG5090A, 56V, 1W) in parallel with C302. Cathode to pin 9 of IC301, anode to ground. Add a zener diode (MTZ15C, ECG5024, 15V, 1/2 W) from IC301 pin 3 to ground. Cathode to pin 3, anode to ground. Add a .47uF@100V capacitor from the yoke pin "V2" (green wire) to ground. Add a 10uh coil in series with existing coil L304 located off pin 9 or IC301 just behind the chip. Now, as to the vast heat reduction brought about by installing the kit. Well, it wasn't even "half-vast". It still ran pretty not. After your finger was on it for one second, you'd want to take it off. I posted an inquiry on the NesdaNet for other's experiences with this kit. Several replies echoed my own experience - not much of a heat reduction, and some said that they don't bother with the kit anymore - just let it run hot. I had ESR'ed all the caps in the vert pump-up diode, resistors OK and the set had normal height and Lin., so based on the experiences of others, I assume that it is meant to run hot. I did add an additional metal "heat sink" on to the "face side" of the IC and got more of a heat reduction from that than installing the kit. Overall, it seems that this set is destined to be run in the winter to aid with household heating bills.
