If this is an older set made before 1998, there is a service note about
this:

Symptom: Television shuts down when connecting the Chipper Check interface
in the service mode
Cause: The KD1/ATE EN (U13101 pin 5) line on the micro is ?glitched? when
connecting the Chipper Check
interface.
Cure: 1. Check the value of R13126 (connected to pin 5 of U13101). If it is
a 10K ohm resistor, change
it to a 36K resistor (stock number 206402). If R13126 is a 100K ohm
resistor, there is no need
to change the resistor.
2. Do not connect the Chipper Check interface until after the Chipper Check
software is started at
the initial screen. The software will preset the KD1/ATE EN line high,
minimizing the ?glitch? to
this line.
