[TechAssist] RCA VR557 vcr, Is it Safe?

What does it mean when an RCA VR557 vcr won't eject the tape and says "SAFE" on
the display? Before it said ERR and I cleaned the mode switch which fixed it.
Customer took home and now it displays SAFE with the tape stuck inside. I
"love" these newer VCR's! Thanks in advance.
