David, From Tech Repair CD: RCA\VPT296\VIDEO DISTORTED IN PLAYBACK.\\\\BAD Q215\\\\\\\\\ Also, make sure the head amp is securely fastened. I don't think I've ever seen bad heads cause this problem on that old of a set. If you have a dummy cassette, stick it in, place alcohol on one of your business cards and place the unit in play and let the heads run over the business card. Picture is distorted with white blocks that streak throughout the picture (except on the very top and bottom), not like bad tracking or misaligned guide posts. Cleaned the video head (twice) but this made no difference. I've seen this before but can't remember what it was. The picture is relatively clear above and below the distorted area. Could this be a bad video head or is this related to an electronic problem. God Bless America (North & South). Thanks in advance.
