Tritronics has a kit for the mode switch and solenoid..should fix your problem.
Part number VSJS0018
Keep in mind, if that mode switch is off just a little, you will have problems.
Also, the carriage has to be in place just right. Do you have the alignment
procedure?
All alignments are done in STOP mode and you have to disassemble the top plate
of the carriage to install
the carriage properly.
Good luck...this was my least favorite VCR design to work on.

I have a customer that wants this older vcr fixed. Originally came in with
bad power supply, I fixed that with capacitors, etc.
Now the problem is:
Insert tape, capstan motor continues to run for a few seconds but the clutch
doesn't move, something is locking it up. The head never starts turning or
the guide post assemblies never move and pull the tape out. After a few
seconds, the tape is ejected. The center led and end sensors are OK.
With no manual, it is difficult to visualize what levers move, etc. Any
help would be appreciated on what I should look at.
