Famous for bad HV splitter. 
To check, remove input from flyback to splitter, at
the splitter.
Isolate it.
I use a glass tube, and have a NE2 neon bulb in
there to indicate HV.
turn the set on, it it stays, and you have sound,
you're getting closer.
Re-attach the input and one by one, remove the hv
to the crt's, as a bad crt will cause the same
symptom.
I haven't had it on a rca yet but I ordered a
splitter for a zenith, only to find a bad crt.
