Mark:
I missed your first msg. I guess, Had a virus and deleted all the
emails in past few hours, what are you trying to do ? the degaussing
coil is simply a coil around the tube that is energized for a short time
hence the thermister, it opens up after it warms up ) to remove the
magnetism, thermistors are pretty much all the same, get one out of the
bone yard if you don't have a drawer full of them, I've used a Kohm
resistor before but too much resistance will distort the picture and to
little wont do enough, that was a long time ago before I finally bought a
couple hundred, you can basically put about 15 volts ac through the coil
itself and get it to do the same thing, i.e., use a plug in the wall type
transformer like used on answering machines and telephones, (ac). and
watch the rainbows. again I missed your first MSG so not sure what your
asking but I wouldn't short the leads to the base of the thermister or the
screen will really look bad until this is disconnected from pwr.
b.t.w. I've resoldered hundreds of those gray metal type thermisters
that the leads always come lose on, mainly zenith's, just solder it back
on to another spot, its the material inside that does the separating.
