Resetting the defasult parameters to the eeprom will just put it back as
factory shipped it . It will take out customer settings, ie:cable/off
air,channel memory, sound settings etc.
I have always set them to default just in case one or more were corrupted
That way I had a fresh start
I suspect the Gemstar is causing the set to shut off occassionally
I have had that several times If it's in warranty replace the Gemstar if no
warranty at least give estimate that you suspect it
