Most Techs will tell you anything when they don't want to work on something. 
I'm not sure on the line you are talking about. If you can send a digital photo 
of set showing line, I might know more. But, it sounds like you have a bad Red 
CRT or bad video drive or output that runs the Red CRT.James Daly
