Ken, I don't know how old this set is, but I've seen some Pioneer's made in the mid 1990's that with similar problems to yours that were caused by bad caps in the I.F. circuit that was on it's own circuit board off the motherboard. I don't remember the symbol # or cap values, but they were the few electrolytic caps on this small module. When first turned on, there is no picture of sound. The OSD is present, but a little unstable. After 20 seconds or so, both pix and sound come in, but the picture is unstable (slight horizontal tearing) with black streaks through it. The picture gradually improves. At two minutes, the picture is nearly perfect, with just a hint of a jailbar on the left side of the screen. The OSD is now stable as a rock. The jailbar or bars have vanished. The set is perfect. The set must be turned off for about three hours for the symptoms to return. Pioneer is famous for poor solder connections. All boards have been gone over and resoldered three times. We've used enough cold spray to bring on global warming. We ESR'd every cap in sight and replaced about a dozen that even hinted at marginal. I need a miracle. Hope someone has been down this street and can point me to a happy ending.
