Apart from the bad contact mentioned earlier, i couldn't turn down the sound (as i mentioned before). The problem was the sound processor, located under a metal shield, MSP3400C. I replaced it with an MSP3410 i had from an other TV (3410 has some more features i believe - see my other post for datasheet URL) and it's fixed now.
