crossover is not bad but the best way to have a proper home network really
is to have a hub even a 4 port hub would do.  that way if you decide to have
another on the network you can simply just plug it in.  and if the distance
between the two computer is considerable simply put the hub in the middle
and you cut the cable resistance in half.
