Jerry, I have bought the parts needed to make the leads for the connector. Did you purchase a clip for the EEPROM, if so where, or how do you attach the wires to the EEPROM? support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx FAX 717-564-4952 Jeff Dougherty Intrepid Video & Electronics Be careful of your thoughts. 501 Luther Rd They may become your words Harrisburg, PA 17111 any moment. 717-909-8844 VCR tips, electronics info & general interest. www.intrepid-video.com www.tech-repair.net www.thetoolcaddy.com www.9-11-2001tragedy.com *********************************************************************** ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerry" <geiting@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 8:23 PM Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Need refresher on RCA EEPROM replacing...] Phil, I hate to state the obvious, but if your going to continue to service Thomson sets, you need to invest in chipper check. With it you can "reinitialize" the ctc177 series eeproms, which means accessing the locations in the eeproms that aren't accessible in the normal service menu. On newer chassis (ctc195/7/203 etc), it's a must. On the 177 series, if the other (i.e. service menu) values are corrupted, you will have to realign the chassis anyway. Since I've had chipper check (about 5 years) I haven't had to replace an eeprom. The way Thomson suggests you connect Chipper Check to a 177 series chassis is painful, but there are better ways to do it. I made an adaptor for those eeprom chips. I can supply more info if interested (sorry, I have no pictures of diagrams of this, just text)...
