Daryl, What's the chassis number. Should be printed on the edge of the board and start with 00EMJ.... I may have the whole new board in stock. The trouble strongly points to the 64 pin postage stamp IC (IC7000). I now have a couple of other questions or so .... In the past when I suspected a postage stamp IC to be defective, I informed the customer of the usually high cost of the IC and the labor. All have always declined the estimate and purchased a new replacement set. Now with this set being almost new, it is going to be a bit touchy to tell the customer to buy a new set. Next question... If the customer opts to have the set repaired, how do you go about changing such an item? The foil is so small and fragile looking, I would suspect that he foil can be damage quite easily, not to mention trying to work in such close tolerances with respect to the tiny pins. I figure a starting point would be to cut the pins to remove and unsolder the pins very carefully. Now for the final question... Is the set really worth the time and expense? A new set at Office Max was advertised over the weekend for $79 after the rebates. I figure the parts and labor will run more than that provided I am successful in doing the micro surgery. I guess I may have to change my MOS to read "brain surgery while you wait" :-). The stations that are broadcasting stereo displays "mono" on the screen. The audio jacks work and the volume bar also functions. I have ESR'd the electro's, looked for open resistors and poor connections.... none found to be the problem. I did find a service manual listed but $50 plus S/H is out of the question plus the repairs. This set will not justify those kind of expenses. I should go buy a new set at $79 and tell the customer I repaired it and collect the money. However, I don't think the customer is that gullible. > Any help or advice would be appreciated to save this repair. > Daryl > Daryl's TV > 2402 Wyoming Ave. > El Paso, TX 79903 > daryls_tv@xxxxxxx > www.angelfire.com/tv2/daryls_tv > > > -- > ___________________________________________________________ > Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com > http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- > Lost Password: > http://www.tech-assist.org and select "Login Problems?". > Email Archives: > //www.freelists.org/archives/techassist/ -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Lost Password: http://www.tech-assist.org and select "Login Problems?".
