[TechAssist] Magn--How to bypass bad VCR in TV/VCR combo?

Hi,
Philips/Magnavox TV/VCR Model CCA192AT32
The customer has messed up the VCR so badly "prying" out a tape that
was stuck that it is out of the question to repair the VCR deck.
Wondering how to get the TV portion to operate normally in spite of
this.... present condition is that upon power on, the VCR attempts to
load (jammed and broken parts) , raster comes on and then in about 5
seconds all shuts down.
I have removed the mode switch and tried many different positions as
well as removeing the rotor portion of switch but cannot get set to
just run in TV mode.
Is there a "shortcut" way to kill the VCR and just enable the TV to
be used normally?
