Don't laugh, I have actually touched asbestos and lived to tell about
it. We did that a lot in high school physics class. We put a piece of
asbestos
on top of the Bunsen burners so the flame wouldn't break the beakers,
using
only our bare fingers. I even rubbed mercury onto a copper penny to make
it
look like a dime, using nothing but my bare fingers. When somebody
dropped
a
mercury thermometer and broke it, we didn't run out of the school
screaming.
No sir, we ran toward the spot to collect the mercury for fun things,
like
the afore mentioned penny rubbing.
Now I know why I decided to become a TV repairman ----- brain damage.

I just don't stick my nose right over it and take deep breath. Sometimes
I blow on it if it's heading for my nose.

I have been soldering for 30 years and have been tested for lead several
times and always the test was negative. I think the smoke from the resin
and contaminants is more of a hazard. Ditto John, I just use a small
fan. Probaly should have an extractor but never have.

Fellow Techs,

Most of us use 60/40 solder everyday on our repairs. How serious an
issue
is
this "lead poisoning" issue pertaining to us techs in the tv repair
business?
What are some of you fellow techs/shops using to extact the solder
fumes??
