Hi all-we have found that with many JVC tape decks when replacing belts ,we were better off ordering originals from JVC. After spending way too much time on a couple of units that had belts changed and seemed to be fine for a week or 2 but were brought back because decks didn't function properly, the use of OEM belts made the difference. "Cassette ''B'' assy would lock up intermittently. Sometimes you could not even open the door." My customer even complained about the CD not working also, although I haven't seen it act up while working on the unit. I did clean the cd mech and motors. I have gone ahead and changed the 2 cassette drive belts as Ed suggested. I used SBS 10.0 from Global. They are just slightly shorter than the original belts in the unit. After installing the belts, I played with the cassette operation, switching from deck A to B, back and forth, plus changing direction of play. Also rewound tape to beginning, etc. I haven't declared it repaired yet (Ed will get a hoot out of that comment) but I am thinking that the belts were the cause of the lock up. I didn't suspect the belts because they seemed to be snug enough, not loose.
