Al, I just repaired the same model set with similar symptom this past
week. When power button pressed, the red light would come on but the set
wouldn't start up.

Check the B+ pin on the flyback (next to the HOT collector pin). Press
the power button and see if the B+ rises. ON my set, it went to 76V dc
for a second then died out. There are two wire jumpers in parallel
leading to the flyback B+ pin from the power supply. Disconnect these
jumpers then measure the B+ on the power supply side of the jumpers.
Mine ran at 135V. The flyback was the culprit. My HR flyback tester
agreed with that theory- it showed a bad collector waveform on the
scope). Global had the flyback in stock for $74.00 CDN. Fixed the set.
