Works both ways. One of my customers has a small machine shop with an NC
mill and a NC lathe. Said he gets most of his work on-line from some site
where people post what they want and he bids on it. Low overall bidder gets
the job. If the finished product is satisfactory, then he gets paid. Said he
usually just breaks even on the first order because of the programming time
involved and then makes some profit if he can be the low bidder on the same
part when it comes up again for bid.
