Kerry, is it a BUH517, or BUH517D? If it has the D then it has a damper diode built in. This transistor is rated at 1700V so be careful in trying to find a sub for it. I have several notes here that people have used a 2SD1885 and got away with it. If you try it, test run for a while and monitor the temperature of it.
