16x9 format can be 480p (doesn't have to be) or 720 or 1080. When you SEE a
1080 once you will know it. My set does not indicate what format/resolution
it is in, but I have seen channel 9-1 and channel 9-2 in 16x9, that
precludes 1080 due to bandwidth restrictions, and it looks a world better
than DVD, which leads me to conclude that those programs would be 720p.
Then go to another station such as 27-1 and the picture there is a world
better.

I read somewhere recently that the stations now can have a "smart"
capability which moves bandwidth between sub-channels. So 27-1 could be
1080 while 27-2 is the weather radar, and if the 1080 sub-channel needs more
bandwidth it robs it from the weather radar (like that display is going to
eat digits and people are going to complain about the lost resolution).
