Dennis and all:

My Fluke IR meter is very directional. It will measure different
temperatures in the ends of an IC. At 1 inch its reading diameter is .3
inches, at 3 inches, .8 inches. I can see differences from one side of the
STK730-x devices.

In the case of the particular unit I was measureing (it was in for an
intermittant shutdown problem, which was, of course, tuner wrap) and just
happened to be available at the time of someone elses post, the IC has the
factory thermal pad. This morning the room is 75F. Reading the back of the
stk/heat-sink from about 2 inches, the center of the device measures 151.
This particular unit has the single screw clamp, and the screw reads 145.6F.

Well, gotta go play somewhere else now.
