So true! I have cable internet with Time-Warner (Brighthouse).
I have the cable modem, going into a router with three PCs hooked to
it.One of my PCs has one of the P2P download programs on it for
music, etc. It always shows the download speed of each file and it is
usually 500kb to 1.2kb with cable! NOT the touted 5 megabytes
advertised.Same when someone sends me a file here.
I am told Verizon DSL here will be about $30.00/month with taxes
incl.,speed of 700kb.Thats 10X that of dial up anyway. I am really
thinking of the DSL. Also, here I have a Rhon tower 40 feet against the
building I put up in the 70's.Still like new. I can put a Winegard
fringe Vhf/Uhf antenna up, face it towards Tampa. (transmitters 40+miles
away?)That will get me :
Channels: 3,8,10,13,16,28,32,38,44,50. At least.probably more...Now
that's a nice variety of VHF low, VHF high, and UHF freqs to performance
test a TV.And, it would give darn good HD...Free!
Screw'm. I think they figure we are getting complacient. When the hell
have we ever in our lives needed $150.00/month for TV and internet?
Reality check here. That used to be a house payment. (I remember!)They
brainwash us that we absolutely can't live without it. I like you and
Al's "work around".
;-)
Will stew on this a while.
