The last word from this corner is that I tried several suppliers to get the
original part, but they all had to special order it. I am working off of Sams
3986. In the parts list for R417 they call it a Fusible. They give the original
part number and an NTE sub. The NTE sub is F1W5D6. If I had to guess I would
say the F stands for fusible. I found a supplier that had the NTE in stock. I
had someone drive about 40mi to pick it up. Guess what it says on the package?
" Flame Proof" NTE may not be the last word on this subject,but it's good
enough for me. I put it in and put the back on the set.

I realize that some film resistors with the same wattage ratings
may open at a different temperature, but I feel a lot better using
a film resistor in place of a fuseable than using one with a higher
wattage rating.
Yes, in extremely rare cases this practice could cause a house to
catch fire, but I suppose it's about as likely as getting hit by a
bus. I'm very honest with my customers, and try to get the job done
without having to special order a 50 cent part too often.
