Maybe my post on this subject did not get through. Had the same problem some time ago. Computer expert told me to unplug the video card from the computer and let the computer boot up. After the computer has finished booting up, shut it down by removing the power. Then plug the video card back in and boot up again. When you boot up without the video card, Windows will uninstall it. When you boot up with the card back in, Windows will re-install it, but with the default parameters, which should operate any monitor that has the right connector. Worked for us! The computer I am using to correspond is slow as molasses on a cold winter day. It is using a 9600 modem. Better than nothing, I guess. This is why I am anxious to get my other computer going. > Daryl > Daryl's TV > 2402 Wyoming Ave. > El Paso, TX 79903 > daryls_tv@xxxxxxx > www.angelfire.com/tv2/daryls_tv > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Jim Myers <jr.myers@xxxxxxxxxxx> > Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 15:22:14 -0500 > To: techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Computer help needed > > > Try holding down the CTRL key as it boots. I have tried all of the "F" series keys as it boots up including the "del" key which brings it up into the "bios". I also tried turning off the computer and turning it back on and all it does is come up into "scan disk". Just can't make it come up into "safe mode". I was trying to get into the display settings but that is one of the problems I am incurring. Also a new problem is I can't make the "reset(reboot)" button work as well. > > > Daryl > > > Daryl's TV > > > 2402 Wyoming Ave. > > > El Paso, TX 79903 > > > daryls_tv@xxxxxxx > > > www.angelfire.com/tv2/daryls_tv > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > > From: Al Gutz <alg@xxxxxxxxxxx> > > > Date: Wed, 24 Mar 2004 22:54:16 -0500 > > > To: techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > > > Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Computer help needed > > > > > > > > >>Daryl > > >> > > >> If the monitor is reading the bootup info then going horz when win > > >>comes on its possible that the system is set to a higher mode than the > > >>monitor can use. > > >>Try hitting F6 or F7 keys repeatidly as win starts to boot, should put > > >>it safe mode. > > >> > > >>Al G > > >>Al's TV-Electronics > > >>Pembroke Ont. > > >>Canada > > >> > > >>daryls_tv@xxxxxxx wrote: > > >> > > >>>Hi, > > >>>I need some advice on my computer. Last week I used it and it was working fine at turn off. I turned it on later and the monitor only briefly displayed the green LED and no raster. I figured the power supply took a dump. I found the flyback would only give two small rings and mostly flatlined. I had another monitor to use until I located a flyback. Now for the new problem.... The monitor shows the boot-up information but as soon as it gets to the desktop display, the horizontal is extremely off frequency. I can not bring it up into the "safe mode". I am thinking it is something to do with the video settings but I can't get into them. > > >>>I suspect this could be a mother board problem but I would hate to scrap the board if it is a minor problem. This is a 586 using a PC Chips M571 board.
